Milton Harris "Pete" Lanier III, 59, died Friday at his residence in Tierra Verde, Fla. Pete was an accomplished tennis player. He played for the University of Alabama and ranked nationally as a junior. After many years as a tennis professional in St. Croix, Virgin Islands, he returned to Huntsville to become the president of the West Huntsville Land Co. He is survived by his mother, Dede Lanier of Vero Beach, Fla.; sister, Anne Lanier of Vero Beach; and brother, Frederick Lanier of Huntsville. He is also survived by several nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by his sister, Robin Lanier Stewart; and father, M.H. Lanier. Memorial donations may be made to the Robin Lanier Stewart Memorial Fund c/o The Huntsville Hospital Foundation.
