Stephen 'Steve’ Lewis died in Atlanta, Ga on December 11, 2025, at age 78. Steve had been diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2018, but doctors at Emory University Medical Center had been able to remove the tumor. However, Steve had become very weak over the past year and had resided in a skilled nursing facility for most of 2025. 

Steve is survived by his wife, Claudia, of Atlanta, whom he met in college at Southwestern at Memphis (now Rhodes College). His children are Margaret, a history professor at the University of Tennessee-Martin campus, and his son, Matthew, who owns Lewis Global Karate in Atlanta. Steve also has an older sister and a younger brother and sister who live in various cities. 

Also, Steve played French horn in the HHS band and was a member of the First Baptist Church tour choir during high school.
