Betty Jean "B.J. " Adams Hammond of Guntersville was born to Houston Glen Adams and Lucile Walker Adams in Huntsville.

After graduating from Huntsville High School and receiving her B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Mississippi, she began a teaching career that spanned 30 years. She taught two years in Batesville, Miss.; three years in Richmond, Va.; and 25 years in Guntersville teaching middle school English. She was a devoted and beloved educator who had a passion and love for her students.

Through 46 years of marriage, she was a loving, devoted wife to Roger Hammond, who adored her. She blessed her two children, Alan and Adam with gracefilled love and she dotingly delighted in her four grandchildren. When she was 14 years old, Jesus revealed Himself as her savior and at the age of 65 Jesus welcomed her home! She was loved and will be missed by many friends and family.

B.J. is survived by her husband, Roger of Guntersville; her two sons, Adam (Mary Grace) of Guntersville and Alan (Holli) of Huntsville; her four grandchildren, Hannah Grace, Turner, Westin and Addison Reese; her brother, Ken Adams (Lowell) of Birmingham; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Guntersville Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2 pm Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Guntersville with Pastor Terry Bentley and Pastor Christopher Herbert officiating. Pallbearers will be Drew Adams, Randy Beard, John Boggess, Sean Packard, Tom Richey and Scott Patton.
