Ronald Lee Sanders, 72, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 25 at Huntsville Hospital Hospice Family Care. Mr. Sanders was born in Huntsville on December 3, 1945 to John Wiley and Alane Bland Sanders. A graduate of the first class of UAH, he served as the first president of the Student Government Association, graduating summa cum laude with a degree in biology. He worked as a math teacher at Huntsville Middle School, Lee High School and Athens State University. After forty years as a systems analyst for companies in North Carolina, Virginia and Huntsville, he retired in 2016. Mr. Sanders is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janice Harris Sanders; daughters, Shannon Belew (Tommy) of Huntsville, and Stephanie Carter (Tom) of Lake Elsinore, CA; grandchildren, Holden Belew and Wiley Belew of Huntsville, and Evan Carter of Lake Elsinore, CA; brother, Gene Sanders (Jane) of Huntsville; brother-in-law, Arthur Harris (Patty) of Knoxville, TN; sister-in-law, Paula Harris of Huntsville; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, November 2nd from 1 to 2 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A Celebration of the Life will follow in the chapel with Mike Sanders officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UAH Scholarship Fund in Mr. Sanders' memory. (www.laughlinservice.com)
